We are marking the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a number of special celebrations, both over the four-day long weekend and throughout June, in her Majesty’s honour. You might not know, but the hotel has a vibrant history spanning over 200 years and the hotel’s past is peppered with interesting nods to the royal family!
Perhaps most notable was Anna Maria Russell, Duchess of Bedford (wife of the 7th Duke), who created the much-loved concept of afternoon tea in 1845. With the famous pastime still as popular as it was back then, throughout June, Bedford Lodge will be serving a Royal Afternoon Tea with a selection of traditional treats on offer. There will even be an Elizabeth Royal Fruit Cake, inspired by the nine-foot-tall fruit cake from Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s 1947 wedding, as well as a mini–Bombe Glacée Royale, one of Her Majesty’s favourite desserts.
We will also be hosting a commemorative Royal Afternoon Tea on the Lawn on Sunday 5th June. Here guests can sip on a Pimm’s cocktail or a fragrant glass of Rose while tucking into Coronation Chicken, Cucumber & Celery Salt and Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese sandwiches.
Want to really be treated like royalty for day? We have created the limited-edition Royal Pamper & Picnic Spa Day! Available throughout June, guests are invited to enjoy both a luxurious day in the spa, as well as enjoy the al fresco Royal Afternoon Tea picnic on the beautiful lavender lawn! The Spa day includes access to all our heat facilities (hydrotherapy pool, steam room, sauna, experiential showers and roof top hot tub) as well as a luxurious 55-minute ESPA bespoke facial. Tailored to your individual needs, the facial includes deep cleansing, exfoliation and a treatment specific massage and mask for the ultimate in royal inspired relaxation.
