We absolutely love summer at The Spa at Bedford Lodge Hotel, our garden is full of beautiful blooms and it’s such a tranquil space for our guests to enjoy when the sky is blue and the sun is shining. Many of our spa guests choose to indulge in a nourishing facial, to both protect their skin during the hotter months and give them a gorgeous glow to enjoy during the many social events of the season!
When it comes to choosing the right facial treatment for you, there are a few different elements to consider. The summer can bring its own set of challenges for the skin, such as increased heat, humidity, and exposure to the sun.
My personal favourite facial for summer? The ESPA Advanced Radiance Facial (£137 / 90 minutes). This is a powerful, results-driven facial that combines lifting, smoothing and a radiance mask with our rose quartz crystal massage (I love crystals!). Your skin will be left rejuvenated with a sun-kissed glow, ready for those summer vibes.
To ensure your skin stays healthy, refreshed, and protected during this time I’ve put together my top tips. Number one is always, always (!) start your day with a high SPF to protect your skin and remember to top up regularly throughout the day. I always start with a moisturiser with a SPF already included within the ingredients, the ESPA Optimal Skin Pro-moisturiser SPF30 is a perfect base.
- Choose a Hydrating Facial
During the summer, our skin tends to lose more moisture due to the heat and humidity. Choosing a hydrating facial can replenish your skin’s moisture levels and help combat any dryness. Look for treatments that include ingredients like hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, or cucumber extracts, as they provide intense hydration and will soothe the skin.
- Yes, an exfoliating facial can be good for summer skin!
Excessive sweating and exposure to the elements can lead to clogged pores and dull looking skin. An exfoliating facial will help to remove dead skin cells, clear pores, and promote cell turnover, resulting in a brighter and smoother complexion. Choose treatments with gentle exfoliants like fruit enzymes or alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs).
- Vitamin C goes perfectly with Vitamin Sea
If you’ve spent a lot of time in the sun during summer, antioxidants and ingredients like vitamin C can help repair sun-damaged skin, reduce the appearance of dark spots, and enhance overall skin tone. Vitamin C is a great ingredient to look after the skin year-round, so a good investment whatever the weather.
- Cooling ingredients to calm summer skin
Summer heat can cause skin inflammation and redness, and even the very best of us can accidentally get caught out with unexpected sunburn. Look for ingredients like chamomile, green tea, or menthol to provide a cooling sensation and calm the skin, that will help reduce redness and irritation.
Until next time,
