Get ready to enjoy a delightful tradition this August as Afternoon Tea Week rolls in from the 7th to the 13th. If you’re wondering where to celebrate, look no further than The Spa at Bedford Lodge Hotel! Why here you ask? Well, Bedford Lodge Hotel holds a special place in the history of afternoon tea – a cultural phenomenon popularised by Anna Maria, Duchess of Bedford, wife of the 7th Duke of Bedford, who was the second owner of Bedford Lodge.
Back in the 1800s, people typically had just two meals a day – breakfast and dinner. Anna Maria, however, found herself getting hungry around lunchtime. So, she started having a pot of English tea and a light snack during this time. This casual habit soon turned into a social occasion for her and her friends, becoming popular among the upper classes and enduring to this day.
We wanted to honour the history of the hotel and create something really special for our spa guests, so for a limited time this summer you can book in for a “Picnic & Pamper Spa Day”, a fun twist on the classic afternoon tea. This unique experience combines the heavenly spa experience with an indulgent picnic in our beautiful spa garden. You will receive a basket filled with treats, including freshly baked rolls, pork pies, olives, breadsticks with hummus, and more. This feast is complemented by scones, cakes, and pastries, along with your choice of a soft drink.
The whole package comes with two spa treatments and full access our spa’s thermal facilities – you can choose between the Mud Rasul Treatment or Dry Floatation, and then enjoy a 65-minute power cleanse ritual, which consists of a full body brush and polish, foot ritual, power cleanse facial including warm oil scalp massage. It’s a complete pampering experience available from June to September!
